Giftedness is a term that refers to people who demonstrate exceptional talent and ability in different domains such as intelligence, creativity, or academics. Twice-exceptionality, frequently shortened to just "2e" is the phenomenon of giftedness that occurs with a disorder present, such as ADHD, autism, or dyslexia. Due to their incredible intelligence, these individuals mask their disorder by compensating in ways made possible by their superior ability. Likewise, their disorder also masks their giftedness. Gifted and 2e people typically process information very differently than most people cognitively, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally. This can lead to being misunderstood in school and work settings. Throughout my career, I have acquired a wealth of experience working with people that are gifted and twice-exceptional, including doctoral training in administering comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations for children with these disorders. If you suspect this definition may fit you, we can work together to help you feel understood and find strategies that work for your unique profile.
